The following filetypes are allowed by default:
jpg jpeg gif png flv mp4 ogv webm m4v
If you want to upload files that are either too big or not in the right file type, you can try a few things first.

Another filetype you can try if webm didn't work is mp4. Best way to do this is by using Handbrake.
